Hopeless Sound

No puede ser que hayan pasado 10 años desde que hace 10 años comenzara este siglo.

Un género llegó con el 01/01/2000 y sigue aun entre nosotros. El indie tomó las riendas de este nuevo siglo y la música popular se puso a estudiar, el punk fue revalorado y aprendió de los oscuros ochentas, las niñas rebeldes ahora tenían una preciosa voz de muchos años de práctica y los varones ahora sabían tocar más de un instrumento. Nunca la rebeldía fue tan culta para señalar su inconformidad y el deseo de ser famoso.

En esos intentos, siempre hay algunos que pueden salir de las redes de lo regular y predecible, estos, señoras y señores, son los discos que escuchamos una y otra vez en estos 10 años, ningún tema es descartable en estos álbums...

El dance se ha apoderado de este año que llega a su fin, sea indie, sea cumbia, sea electrónica, casi 365 días de música que ha movido cuerpo. Aunque rockeros de esencia, el baile ha sido lo más remarcable en esta lista:

Empezamos con The Bird and the Bee, pop de voz suave y ritmos electrónicos, Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future fue el disco que escuchamos. White Lies puso las guitarras post-rock con To Lose my Life. The Soft Pack, antes conocidos como The Muslims volvió con el ritmo enérgico y fuerza del rock simple de guitarras, bajos y batería, el bootleg The Muslims contiene buenas canciones para los rockeros de siempre.

Beirut y March of the Zapotec and Realpeople Holland hicieron disfrutar con el peculiar sonido alejado de lo convencional que vienen demostrando álbum tras álbum.

Ziggy Stardust Remixed trajo algunos mashups bastante logrados, las mejores canciones de Ziggy con conocidos temas de MGMT, Deep Purple, Bob Marley, The Beatles, entre otros. El indie folk llegó con Elvis Perkins y su placa Elvis Perkins in Dearland, guitarras acústicas, arreglos trabajados, y claro está, el sonido indie.

Escuchamos a Faunts, reminiscencias ochenteras a ritmo electrónico bajo una calma bastante inquieta, sonido que se puede encontrar en Feel Love. Thinking. Of. El sonido de Fanfarlo y su placa Reservoir nos hicieron pensar en algo como el Indie Classic, elgantes voces chico chica que remiten a escenarios de esa paz rara y extraña a la que casi siempre envían.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs han sido en varios sitios las indiscutibles destacadas de este año, It's Blitz las trajo con un sonido más indie tirando con lo electrónico. Wino fue el grupo encargado de decir que el rock nunca muere, Punctuated Equilibrium tiene mucha guitarra, bajo y batería luchando por ser los mejores. Röyksopp dio mucho que hablar con Junior, indie dance y electrónica que puedes bailar sentado sin que nadie se de cuenta.

The Right Ons fueron otros muchachos llamando al baile, sin sintentizadores y con mucha fuerza, Look Inside, Now! es otra muestra de lo variado del sonido indie. Radio Moscow sigue el mismo camino que recorrió su anterior disco y su placa Brain Cycles nos trae nuevos temas cargados de fuerza y mucho hard-rock.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart con su disco del mismo nombre, le puso punk al indie y el resultado es un sonido que recuerda lo uno y lo otro pero sin llegar a fusionarse. Souvenir fue la pareja dance de este año, sin llegar a los logros de Tings Tings, Drums, Sex and Dance invita al baile sin mucho problema. El sonido de Client es más oscuro sin dejar de ser bailable, su placa Command puede pasar desapercibido en cualquier catálogo por géneros.

Mountains nos lleva a espacios donde el vacío resulta una tensión de sonidos próximos a explotar, Choral es el disco culpable del big bang sonoro. La hermosa voz delante de Camera Obscura nos hizo pensar en Belle & Sebastian sin Belle & Sebastian, indie pop directo y sin pretensiones, el nombre de la placa es My Maudlin Career. Entertainment For The BrainDead fue otra experiencia cerebral, lo acústico de los instrumentos y lo delicado de la voz con algún toque electrónico hacen que Seven+1 sea otro vehículo de viaje interestelar.

Phoenix fue la "nueva-banda-prometedora-pero-parcialmente-olvidable" del año, con Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix los muchachos hicieron que los especialistas oigan su disco de aplauso en aplauso. Stratovarius sacó nuevo disco llamado Polaris, ya sin su guitarra principal pero con la misma voz potente de su vocalista, nada nuevo bajo el cielo-infierno metalero pero algún tema puede quedar después de escucharlo varias veces. Mucho leíamos sobre Wilco hasta que decidimos que leer no era lo correcto en estos casos, con muchos años tras ellos y un disco bajo su mismo nombre, probamos un poco del indie que proponen, poco nos quedó (preferimos a Telekinesis!).

Otro poco de rock disfrazado de maquillaje oscuro y listo para la pista de baile fue el de Patrick Wolf y su disco The Bachelor, como para que no queden dudas que esta es la generación de los que interpretan los 80's como si estuvieran en los 80's. Iggy Pop salió mejor parado que sus curtidos colegas que se animaron a sacar disco este año, siempre irreverente y con algo que se deja escuchar, Preliminaires se llama la placa. Esser aun no tiene disco pero con este bootleg tiene fans que disfrutan de su música, Braveface sigue siendo la especie de adelanto para los que disfrutan del indie y el dance.

Noisettes enamora con su vocalista y con lo que canta, sonido pop, indie, folk, algo de jazz y recuerdos de aquellas voces que había antes del rock, Wild Young Hearts te hace sentir un joven a destiempo o un joven que nació en otro tiempo. La cumbia nunca sonó tan indie hasta que llegaron Los Labios, hermosa voz a ritmo de guitarra y batería eléctrica, Cumbia Lulú es el disco que no dejarás de bailar y cantar.

Voz sensual y muy sin-querer-queriendo, Polly Scattergood se hizo escuchar con Please Don't Touch, pop sencillo que de hecho se presta para mezclarlo y pasarlo en algún escenario oscuro y lleno de jóvenes amantes. Desde la otra orilla del indie se hizo escuchar Circulatory System con su disco Signal Morning poniéndole matemáticas al rock o haciendo del rock un difícil problema matemático, cualquiera vale para describir su sonido.

Little Boots estuvo en ese límite del indie sospechosamente pop que tanto disgusta a los anti-mainstream, Hands es la placa en cuestión. A su favor podemos decir que su belleza es muy indie y que nos gustó escucharla. The Phenomenal Handclap Band vino para demostrar de que no sólo de 80's vive el Indie, también están los 70's y específicamente el funk, el álbum es intemporal de principio a fin y tan típico de dos-mil-es, bailable hasta el fin de los tiempos y el disco tiene el mismo nombre que la banda, no se puede pedir más.

Sebastien Schuller con Evenfall fue el equivalente en masculino de lo que aquellas féminas con guitarras en mano reclaman al mundo con melodiosa voz y letras que buscan confundirse con la poesía, no quisimos decir cantautor por lo ofensivo de la palabra, tan políticamente correcta. Morton Valence hace de la tristeza un tópico de sonidos en armonía entre delicadeza y fuerza, mucho de esto se debe a sus vocalistas, Bob And Veronica Ride Again es el nombre de la placa.

Junior Boys mezcla electrónica con soul, o le pone alma al indie electrónico, en Begone Dull Care hay mucha sensualidad proveniente de la voz y el sintetizador. Radioboxer le pone algo más de fuerza en la interpretación de su vocalista y mezcla rock con dance de buena forma, Radio Drama fue el nombre con el que aparecieron este 2009, aunque quedan dudas de algunos parecidos con No Doubt. El sonido de Au Revoir Simone se aproxima a la tristeza, con toques electrónicos y una fémina voz que susurra, Still Night, Still Light contiene piezas para echarse a pensar en qué sucede a veces cuando te echas a pensar.

JJ parecía seguir el camino que Air France recorrió en el 2008, pero un prometedor track no pudo contra las otras partes que componen JJ Nº 2, se dejan escuchar pero no querer. Generationals mereció mejor suerte, el sonido de Con Law es indie al 100%, austeridad en tiempos de gracia. Lee Fields & The Expressions devuelven el sonido setentero hasta estos años y el resultado es My World, canciones que ganan en sentimiento, ese algo que llaman soul, aprenda Sr. Kravitz.

Jarvis Cocker no se complica con Further Complications, rock sencillo, bastante post pero con mucha luz y sentido de la moda. White Denim encontró la equidad entre ser dinosaurio y moderno sin sonar sospechoso, Fits es otra prueba de que el rock, otra vez, nunca muere. Sunset Rubdown va por el camino de los 80's, pero se deja el sintetizador y agarra la guitarra, Dragonslayer tiene voz indie pero guitarra del buen punk desalentado de los 80's. Shantel continúa con las mezclas de electrónica y ritmos balcánicos, este año presentó Planet Paprika, la mezcla de raro y conocido que invita a bailar es la marca de este Dj.

Otra voz que cautiva, encanta y se diferencia en el indie pop, Diving with Andy con su disco Sugar Sugar prometen no defraudar si de susurros al oido se trata. El rock se transporta en melodía y arreglos con Doves y su placa Kingdom of Rust, otra vez Coldplay se debe estar preguntando por qué ya no suenan de esa manera. Delorean fascinó con un EP de 4 temas, Ayrton Senna tiene dance de principio a fin, diversión y verano aun en las peores condiciones climatológicas.

No fue difícil escuchar a Yo La Tengo, de hecho Popular Songs le hace honor al título, pop y rock de melodías y sonido eléctrico, para menear la cabeza desenfrenadamente de vez en cuando. Florence & the Machine descansa en la belleza interpretativa de su vocalista, Lungs es otro de esos discos de indie pop independiente, valga la rebuznancia, donde mientras miras las perfecciones de la belleza que canta, te transportas en medio de su voz.

The Antlers fue otro que se llevó buenas reseñas y muchas estrellas con Hospice, rock rebosante desde donde se le escuche, los muchachos proponen, precisamente cuando proponer es lo que hace falta. The XX fue otro de los que resaltaron, con XX ellos no proponen, van de frente al asunto y se ponen a tocar tal y como ellos han aprendido, el resultado es un disco que asoma por espacios oscuros aunque siempre con una linterna apagada en el bolsillo. Metric va por el lado liso del rock y la voz de la cantante sigue ese rumbo, en Fantasies la distorsión de guitarras con la distorsión natural de la vocalista juegan insinuándose al pop.

Apples in Stereo suenan tan noventas pero tan indie que es difícil no dejar de escucharlos, claro, si tienes más de 25 años hasta la fecha, que mejor deseo de tener tus 2 décadas favoritas en un sólo track, #1 Hits Explosion es el disco salido del entretiempo. Maserati va directo al cerebro, bajo la facha de ser un problema matemático los muchachos y su disco Passages juegan con la repetición y el ritmo para hacer que tu cabeza se vaya sin ti. No hace falta saber alemán para disfrutar de Karpatenhund, su placa Der Name Dieser Band Ist Karpatenhund contiene mucho indie rock/pop para pasar un buen rato, o tratar de aprender el idioma sin aburrirse.

Difícil ser indiferente al ritmo de Gossip, con Music for Men las vergüenzas quedan al margen y nace el movimiento descarado y espontáneo. Ohbijou busca el sonido que exprese la quietud, en Beacons esa búsqueda se mueve un poco, de allí que falle o aburra al no quedar quieta nunca. Baroness busca y encuentra, Blue Record asoma entre el rock y el metal para demostrar que escuchar y solamene poder escuchar es una experiencia envidiable por si sola.

Mission Of Burma regresa unos cuantos años al principio de esta década y con The Sound the Speed the Light las guitarras vuelven a hacer ruido para dejarnos su recuerdo punk en los oídos. The Big Pink es otra banda que tiene los 90's en las venas, con A Brief History of Love el rock y el ritmo industrial se encuentran y se dejan escuchar.

Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears nos ponen a bailar en perfecta anacronía con Tell 'Em What Your Name Is!, un disco de color baile, sin ofender. The Horrors suenan punk, suenan oscuros, suenan Joy Division y suenan bien, Primary Colours hace de la guitarra, batería y bajo meros instrumentos para expresar el desapego anímico del vocalista. Pastels / Tenniscoats remiten al mismo sitio de nostalgia y desencanto tan exquisito hoy en día y con Two Sunsets pareciera que también se puede sonreir sin ser sarcástico y si, se puede.

Dicen que con Love 2, Air volvió por el camino que mejor les convenía, recién los conocemos y tenemos que estar de acuerdo, su disco está lleno de melodías dignas de ser recordadas en alguna caminata solitaria o en medio de un beso especialmente inseperado. Noise Addict no arriesga en el espacio indie pero it was never about the audience band name contiene buenos ejemplos de lo que se puede escuchar por estos días.

Dragonette se ve tan mediáticamente rebelde que queda dudas sobre si quiere ser mediática, Fixin To Thrill coquetea en el pop electrónico con voz y actitud propia, o acaso una actitud propia del pop electrónico, se puede escuchar, se puede bailar, es lo que interesa. Wolfmother regresó con nueva formación este año, Cosmic Egg continúa con el sonido de su anterior álbum, disfrutable si conoces ese primer álbum. Otro que volvió fue The Low Frequency In Stereo con Futuro, los muchachos encontraron su sonido sin tiempo y tan indie, siguen deleitándose en esta nueva placa, se agradece.

Julian Casablancas fue aclamado por Phrazes For The Young, quisimos aclamarlos, de verdad, resaltar algo que nos haya emocionado, no pudimos. Dappled Cities recorre rumbos oscuros pero desvía en el pop/rock para hacer brillar sus temas, Zounds no suena nuevo pero su sonido se deja percibir y saborear. The Love Language y su disco del mismo nombre son otra muestra de ese indie classic que todavía no debe existir. Lo de Susumu Yokota y su disco Mother es el intento por representar el sonido en una experiencia que siempre acabará por ser indescriptible, instrumentos y voces por uno y otro lado que forman esas imágenes donde la palabra resulta inútil.

Lo indie en The Mary Onettes es no sonar indie, con Islands al ritmo de guitarra y sintetizador transportan a algua época de los oscuros 80's. Si lo indie es sinónimo de reciclaje sonoro, nada mejor que el sonido 8-bits para poner a mover pies y cabeza, CFCF no arriesga demasiado en Panesian Nights pero el resultado es destacable.

Nuestro eterno fetiche Roxette, ahora en solitario con Per Gessle, hizo una gira en Europa que quedó grabado en Gessle Over Europe, interesante si eres un fan.

Los Amigos Invisibles siguen con la mezcla de funk, pop, salsa y demás ritmos bailables para elevar la temperatura con Comercial, sensualidad e irreverencia en un solo lugar. Actitud punk, sonido electrónico y voces indie, Cobra Killer mezcla todo en Uppers and Downers y el resultado es una placa llena de temas bailables o de protesta fashion , depende del estado de ánimo. Bird Talk es otra banda indie-punk que con poco mueve mucho del eventual cuerpo que escucha uno de sus temas, No Bird Left Behind corre el peligro de hacerte bailar estando enojado por algo que no recuerdas bien.

Siguiendo con la onda agresiva llegan Vivian Girls, lindas chicas indie que con Everything Goes Wrong demuestran que el desprecio por la melodía más o menos trabajada no es exclusiva de los hombres. Rock, rap, dance, lo que ofrecen The Sounds en Crossing the Rubicon hacen pensar en unos Blondie contemporáneos, el disco está lleno de melodías para silbar una y otra vez, es lo bueno de sonar tan fácil. Ella suena más electrónica y menos alejada en el espacio-tiempo, Belle Who invita al baile con Can't Whistle When You Smile, como antes la sentencia del pop es: melodía. Flor de loto presentó Mundos bizarros, un álbum conceptual muy tirado al rock progresivo, ¿de qué concepto era su "conceptual"? hasta ahora no lo averiguamos, seguimos extrañando su sonido menos "experimental".

Otra experiencia sonora llega con Motohiro Nakashima, el sonido de We Hum On The Way Home lleva al comfort y una paz que por una vez no resulta extraña en nuestros oídos, y no, no nos dormimos.

Mucha música, pocos recuerdos, así fue el 2009 para Hopeless Sound.

Un Real Madrid muy cómodo en el campo derrotó con facilidad y destellos de buen fútbol a un Zaragoza que ni siquiera jugó al fútbol. C. Ronaldo trabajó para él y para sus compañeros, pudiéndose ver a un buen equipo cuando eso sucede.

Albiol con Garay por el medio, Arbeloa y Ramos por las bandas, más adelante Lass y Marcelo, dejando a Diarra en el centro de la contención. Van der Vaart dueño del medio campo en ataque, C. Ronaldo por un lado e Higuaín por el otro.

Todo fue fácil para Real Madrid, Zaragoza otorgó las facilidades necesarias para que cada ataque blanco lleve el peligro necesario para emocionar a los pocos asistentes en el Bernabéu. Ya a los 3 minutos un pase en profundidad de Marcelo aprovechaba la inocencia de la defensa visitante y dejaba al "pipita" en solitario para que en tiro rasante la ponga en el palo lejano del portero. Los blancos continuaron con el espectáculo, con Ramos libre por la derecha para los centros hacia el área chica, Marcelo buscando el pase adecuado en las incursiones por izquierda, Van der Vaart poniendo de lo suyo cada vez con más confianza en el centro de ataque. Marcelo pondría otra vez de lo suyo en otro pase a espaldas de la defensa, esta vez fue Van der Vaart quien cogió el balón y lo mando a la esquina del arco. El holandés aprovecharía un centro de Ramos, a los pocos minutos de haber marcado para anotar el segundo en su cuenta personal. En poco más de media hora se vería un joya de parte de Higuaín, centro desde la izquierda que el "pipita" controla y en segunda instancia de espaldas al arco manda el balón al punto inalcanzable del portero.

En el segundo tiempo la fiesta continuó y el Zaragoza sólo tuvo un disparo desde fuera del área que hizo lucir los reflejos del ahora capitán blanco. C. Ronaldo lucía su fútbol desde el primer tiempo, pases de fantasía, gran control del balón, velocidad envidiable, la oportunidad de celebrar le llegaría tras un centro de Garay, el portugués hizo y deshizo dentro del área chica, marcando a placer el quinto gol de los blancos. En la comodidad llegaron los cambios, Marcelo saldría en para la entrada de Benzema, Higuaín haría lo propio para ceder lugar a Raúl y poco después del último gol entraría Granero para dar descanso a Van der Vaart. En ese último gol Benzema pudo lucir lo que sabe hacer dentro del área chica, sin problemas pudo deshacerse de la defensa y en el mano a mano la mando al palo más lejano con tiro rasante preciso.

Un Zaragoza desaparecido no quiso que siga aumentando la humillación, replegados en su campo trataron de hacer difícil los intentos de los blancos para seguir anotando, los tiros desviados y atajadas del portero dejaron las cosas con el cómodo 6-0.
